Egypt’s hosting of the 2027 Junior Artistic Gymnastics World Championships is expected to mark an important moment for the country’s young gymnasts, giving them a rare opportunity to experience the atmosphere of international competition at home.
The championship will bring junior athletes from around the world to Egypt and is seen by coaches as more than a sporting event. For many, it is a chance to inspire a new generation of gymnasts, strengthen the sport’s presence in the country, and encourage young athletes to continue pursuing their dreams of reaching world-class levels.
Coach Shimaa Gaber said hosting such a major championship can help create an environment that motivates young gymnasts and increases their commitment to the sport. She explained that gymnastics is a demanding discipline that requires years of training and strong mental preparation, making encouragement and support especially important for young athletes.
According to Gaber, the foundations of gymnastics go beyond physical ability. Flexibility, strength, balance, focus, discipline, and patience are all essential qualities for any gymnast hoping to grow in the sport.
Gaber said Egypt has made noticeable progress in gymnastics in recent years, both in international performance and in the number of young people participating in the sport. She attributed part of this development to improved training systems and greater opportunities for athlete support.
However, she also pointed to several challenges facing young gymnasts, including injuries, pressure from intensive training, burnout, and frustration. Gaber said young athletes need consistency and patience as they develop early in their sporting careers.
She added that exposure to international competitions and different training styles can help junior gymnasts improve both mentally and physically. Such experiences, she said, allow athletes to build confidence, develop their skills, and better understand the level required in global competition.
Gaber also advised parents to support their children without placing excessive pressure on them. She said families should choose good coaches and suitable clubs, while allowing children to enjoy gymnastics before focusing heavily on competition and performance.
Coach Mariam Osama also believes the championship will create an exciting atmosphere for young athletes and give them extra motivation to continue training and improving their skills. She said the challenges of gymnastics require athletes to develop determination alongside physical ability.
Osama said the most important traits for any gymnast are flexibility, strength, balance, focus, discipline, and patience. These qualities, she explained, help young athletes face the pressures of training and competition while continuing to grow in the sport.
According to Fatima Ahmed, another gymnastics coach, the past few years have witnessed major growth in gymnastics in Egypt, particularly in the development of training methods and the improvement of Egyptian gymnasts’ performances at the international level.
Ahmed said hosting the championship in Egypt will give young gymnasts the chance to watch elite performers compete at the highest level. She believes this exposure can inspire younger athletes, raise their ambitions, and help them imagine a future in international gymnastics.
She added that junior gymnasts need discipline, resilience, self-belief, and commitment to continuous learning. These qualities, she said, are essential for athletes who must train for years before reaching advanced levels.
Ahmed also highlighted the challenge of balancing school and training, noting that young gymnasts often face heavy time commitments as they work to develop their skills. She said this balance requires support from families, coaches, and clubs.
International participation, Ahmed added, can improve young athletes’ self-confidence and experience by exposing them to different levels of competition and different styles of gymnastics. This kind of exposure, she said, is vital to the long-term growth of junior gymnasts.
As Egypt prepares to host the 2027 Junior Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, coaches believe the event could leave a lasting impact on the sport. Beyond the medals and performances, the championship may provide young athletes with motivation, experience, and a clearer pathway toward becoming future champions.
